So, with all this big news, I just wanted to share some thoughts I've been having. God calls followers of Jesus to act differently toward their enemies than the rest of the world. Even if you really really hate them and they are really really evil.
“You have heard that it was said, ‘You shall love your neighbor and hate your enemy.’ But I say to you, Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, so that you may be sons of your Father who is in heaven. For he makes his sun rise on the evil and on the good, and sends rain on the just and on the unjust. Matt 5:43-45
Do not rejoice when your enemy falls, and let not your heart be glad when he stumbles, lest the Lord see it and be displeased, and turn away his anger from him. Proverbs 24:17,18
Repay no one evil for evil, but give thought to do what is honorable in the sight of all. If possible, so far as it depends on you, live peaceably with all. Beloved, never avenge yourselves, but leave it to the wrath of God, for it is written, “Vengeance is mine, I will repay, says the Lord.” To the contrary, “if your enemy is hungry, feed him; if he is thirsty, give him something to drink; for by so doing you will heap burning coals on his head.” Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good. Romans 12:17-21
Do I think it was wrong that the US killed Bin Laden? No, not necessarily. Did he "deserve" to die? Sure. Does it grieve me when I see great amounts of rejoicing over it? Yes. Am I fearful for Americans living overseas who will feel the immediate and long term backlash? Yes. I can almost see the propaganda being used against us.
I really liked what this guy had to say about it:
"USA! USA!" is the wrong response
perfectly said lady!
